What are the people like at Summerlin Community Church? You will find people of all ages and life stages. We are a very friendly and diverse group of people who love Jesus and love one another.
What should I wear to church? We do not have a dress code. You will find most people dressed in business casual while some wear shorts and others dress up.
Our Sunday Morning Worship Philosophy
God-centered: Glorifying God is the highest priority of our Sunday morning services.
Gospel centered: The music, teaching and preaching ministries at Summerlin strive to point believers and unbelievers to the hope and grace that can only be found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Bible-saturated: The content of our songs, prayers, welcoming words, and sermons will always seek to point people to the Scriptures. The content of God’s Word is woven through all we do in worship.
Expectant: We expect God to encourage, convict and equip us as we worship Him. We expect Christ to be glorified and to hear from Him through His word.
Evangelizing & Equipping: We welcome and anticipate people coming to the church with questions about who God is and what His word says. The teaching ministry strives to answer spiritual questions directly from God’s word. We desire to share God’s word in such a way that those who have questions about Christianity can see their need for salvation in Christ alone and believers can grow in their knowledge, love and worship of Christ.
Excellent without distraction: We try to sing, pray and preach in such a way that people’s attention will not be diverted from the substance of worship. Our music team is a group of volunteers who love Jesus and desire to use their talents to glorify God in song.
Contemporary & Classical: We seek to sing songs that are rich in truth and stir believers’ thoughts and affections toward Jesus. Thus, we believe that the songs we sing should primarily be about God (his attributes, Gospel and glory) or to God (our response to those truths). Stylistically, our music is contemporary with a mix of one or two classical worship songs.
Our Sunday Morning Preaching / Bible Teaching Philosophy
Expositional: The preaching and teaching ministry seeks to present sermons that proclaim the central meaning of a Scriptural text in its context. It is our desire to expound the meaning that the author of Scripture intended to convey and to apply that meaning to the lives of those who are hearing God’s word so that we may better know, glorify and enjoy God.
Our Sunday Children’s Ministry Philosophy
Family Equipping & Encouraging: We believe that parents have the primary responsibility for the training of their children. With this in mind, we desire to come along side of parents by offering options, encouragement and support. Children are invited to participate in the worship service with their parents are participate in our Sunday school classes and nursery. We leave this up to the parents.
Sunday School for Children: Children are welcome to worship together with their parents during our worship services. Parents may also enroll their children in an optional Sunday school type of class during the sermon. Children worship in song with their parents at the beginning of the service and are dismissed before the sermon for optional Sunday school classes. During the Sunday school class preschoolers through kindergarten explore how the Old and New Testament points to Jesus Christ and the Gospel using The Gospel Project Curriculum. Children in grades 1-5 study the Old and New Testament using Generations of Grace curriculum. GOG offers chapter-by-chapter Bible teaching. Both classes offer parent resources for parents to use during the week for family devotions.
AWANA on Sunday Nights: We also offers AWANA on Sundays at 4:00 pm. AWANA helps children ages 3-12 years old grow in the knowledge and application of God’s word through scripture memorization, lessons and games.
Parental Participation: Parental participation is a priority for Summerlin Church. We welcome and encourage parents to actively participate with their children in our children’s ministries.
Nursery for Babies & Toddlers: Our nursery is staffed with loving volunteers who are willing and ready to assist parents as needed. Babies and Toddlers are welcome to join their parents during any of our worship services. Sometimes children cry or get fussy. When this occurs, parents should quickly and quietly exit the sanctuary and bring their children to the nursery. Parents are welcome to stay in the nursery with their children. There is a speaker and window in our nursery. Parents can either view and listen to the service from the nursery while comforting their children or they can check their children into the nursery.
