At Summerlin, our leaders are not perfect but they are men who trust in Christ alone to save them and by His grace they love the Lord, they love their families and love our church family. They are Bible teachers who emphasize the grace of God in the Gospel as they lead our church in outreach, discipleship, prayer, worship and spiritual leadership for God’s glory alone.
We believe the New Testament teaches that churches should be led by a team of male elders, and that’s how we have structured Summerlin Community Baptist Church.
Our elders function as a team of brothers, loving each other, praying with and for each other, holding each other accountable, talking together, working together, studying God’s Word together, dreaming together, caring for and leading the church together. All Pastors and Elders at Summerlin Community Baptist Church affirm and teach in accordance with the BFM 2000 and The Abstract of Principles 1858.

Elders in Training: SCBC has an elders in training program where men who sense a call to leadership experience a 1-2 year mentorship with the elder team. Elders in Training men will read books on Biblical leadership, study and grow in God’s word, attend most of the elders meetings and serve in various roles in the church while faithfulness to God’s word and faithfulness to developing God’s people is tested. Elders in training are not officially installed elders until such time that the current elders believe the man to be ready for installation as an elder. Participation in the Elders in Training mentorship program does not guarantee future ordination or installation as an elder but is a process whereby men who desire training and testing for leadership can be discipled, developed and tested as potential elders.
Deacons at Summerlin Community Church serve along side of the elders. The Deacons are men who have been appointed to serve this local church, they are not overseers as their role is one of providing assistance to the pastors/elders as called upon by the elders. Primarily deacons serve to meet physical needs in the areas of care and benevolence, ushering during services, building and grounds upkeep and other ministries where they are gifted and called upon to serve. They are headed by the Elder Team and function in accordance with Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Throughout the year individuals serving in various ministries are recommended for observation and training for the role of deacon. After a period of time, training and prayer, if the Lord leads them and the elders to move forward they will be presented to the congregation for confirmation and ordination as deacons.
